Welcome to the Crazy Crafters Blog Hop and my first ever blog hop. This hop we have a Special Guest - France Martin (AKA Frenchie)! Frenchie is a wonderful inspiration, and makes the most amazing projects! I watched many live craft sessions with Frenchie on Periscope and before this I used to search for inspiration on her YouTube clips.
What Card Am I CASEing of Frenchie's?
We are all choosing a card of France that we are inspired by and want to CASE. The definition of CASE is Copy and Selectively Edit. It was so hard to decide which card to CASE as I love them all, but there was one in particular that I saw her do and really wanted to try it. OMG, I am so glad I finally did. The effects and result are amazing and fun to do (you never know what the end result will be) :)
Before I go any further, here is a picture of France Martin, the lady behind all the gorgeous cards.
The card I chose to CASE is below.
Why I Chose this Card:
I absolutely loved the effect of this Joseph Coat watercolour technique - it reminded me of something we did in primary school called 'Sgrafitto'
- a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting colour, typically done in plaster or stucco on walls, or in slip on ceramics before firing.
We used to do it with crayons or coloured oil pastels. Then we would paint over the entire thing with black paint. When the paint was dry we would scratch into it revealing colour. This technique produces the same effect but is far more sophisticated.
My Card
I just love how this card turned out!
So much inspiration went into the colour choice. As I was walking to school to drop off my son this is what I saw - I instantly knew that this would be my colour palette.
To make this card I followed the instructions from this YouTube clip.
Instead of using watercolour paper I used whisper white and sponged on my colours.
The 3 colours I used for the sponged background:
- Flirty Flamingo
- Melon Mambo
- Sweet Sugarplum
Stamp Set: "Kinda Eclectic"
Clear embossed using Versa Mark.
Then covered with Real Red - the colours really reflect the flowers in nature currently in bloom.
I used the new Dapper Denim cardstock to mount the smaller card onto and melon Mambo cardstock for the larger card!
and as Frenchie would say "VOILA"!!!
I had so much fun making this beautiful card with the Joseph Coat technique- thank you so much for the inspiration France. You are going to love this hop today and everyone's take on Frenchie's cards.
Here are some other variations of the same technique using different colours.
I absolutely love doing this technique - and they all turn out slightly different due to the nature of the randomly sponged background!
